Catalog for Museum of New Art, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Group exhibition of six artists living and working along the NH Seacoast region. The artists are Thomas Cowgill, Grant Drumheller, Carl Austin Hyatt, Lisa Noonis, Cheryle St. Onge, and Christopher Volpe. Curated by Erin Hutton. Catalog content manager Barbara O'Brien. Includes a poem by the current Poet Laureate of Portsmouth, Diannely Antigua. The metaphoric use of the term horizon by the curator to relate the varieties of art in the exhibition of spotlighted artists allows for the poetry of reflection of one's life arc to enter in, and reminds us also of the glimpses we have to view a horizon—perhaps to a distant future or a past that still has presence—that bring meaningfulness to life. I selected a detail of Grant Drumheller's painting Pier for the cover, that expresses this poetry with bird's eye perspective in lively, loose brushstrokes and vivid overlaying colors. On view through Sept. 4, 2023 at MONA, 135 Congress St., Portsmouth, NH.
